As I sit, pulled to the mall by my sister and partner, I see a countless crowd of consumers. I am reminded that for every one who would see the place burn, there are thousands who would rather continue in the first-world comforts of capitalism. Counter-culture is culture here, the "alternative" is to end up here regardless of who you are. Creed and dogma are irrelevant. These are things so ingrained in the past and upcoming generations that they may well be insurmountable. I know in the online space and small gatherings of the like-minded, it seems that a fire is starting. But go to the mall on a Saturday afternoon. These are your protestors. With their designer bags and IP vinyl figurines. This is who will go home and say "Trump bad," they will offer no probe into the root cause of why Trump bad, they will offer no solution to the real problems- because that is irrelevant. These are the people of the west. The revolution will fail because it depends on them.
So then, the revolution must come from the few or the outside. What the latter would actually look like is impossible to predict. If you think the former is possible, go to a mall on a Saturday afternoon. Ask yourself, honestly, if you could do it. If you could try to fix the problem through diplomacy or violence. If you answered yes, then ask your comrades the same. If they say say- congratulations!- but ask the next one. Ask until one of them says no. Then see how many ignorant and/or uncaring people are still out there. Maybe the latter option from above is all we can hope for. Maybe the few of the former need to become fewer, and more drastic.
Sitting here, saying "that looks cute" to a cheap piece of plastic my leftist girlfriend shows me, surrounded by the people of the west and their things, I am personally convinced that the revolution will fail. I, however, am a pessimist, and alone here. Maybe all the few need is a little push, and others will join in. Turning a spark into a riot is part of the American spirit, after all.
